Zamâan AWSA, the choir of our association, is currently composed of about fifteen women and men who sing in Arabic. The songbook comprises songs of the Middle East and North Africa. They may be modern or classics of renowned artists from Arab countries. Participants are invited to sing compositions of Fairouz, Marcel Khalifé, Abdelwahab, Dahmane El Harrachi and many more. The lyrics of the songs are available in Arabic, French translation as well as phonetic transcription.
The goals:
- Raise awareness among the Belgian population of the multifaceted richess of Arab artistic culture, and thus help to eradicate stereotypes and prejudices, particularly concerning women from the Arab world.
- Encourage women to play an active role in society by becoming actors in the intercultural dialogue and in the change of mentality concerning them.
- Encourage women to be vectors of their culture in their respective communities.
- Promote art as a means of emancipation and well-being.
